And Mario Lanza was a surprise: I always thought he screamed in the movies but here in Amor Ti Vieta he was perfect. And surely it is unfair to place Adriana Lecouvreur as third since this was splendid singing and orchestral obligato if it's OK to put it that way. Your point about verismo being too small of a canopy to accomodate all that's squeezed under it is well taken. It works for Cavalleria but not for the rest as you say.
Delia and Eugene Delia and Eugenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13372570534975452389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211323416075256950.post-26811552114792244652017-12-04T00:51:34.746-08:002017-12-04T00:51:34.746-08:00You present some interesting material and some gre...You present some interesting material and some great singing by the fine artists.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04116416139471136493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211323416075256950.post-11105670007148601982017-04-01T14:52:34.411-07:002017-04-01T14:52:34.411-07:00For your consideration. For your consideration.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211323416075256950.post-39284957343257507782017-03-05T11:21:53.042-08:002017-03-05T11:21:53.042-08:00Emotional singing that hurts even as it enchants! ...Emotional singing that hurts even as it enchants! Only great artistry can accomplish such emotional effects: it is impossible not to be moved; the final note of Addio del passato is a soft sound echoing from the depths of pain, a depth that can only be "sounded" by such subtle artistry. Thank you Charles and Mirella for this rare gift.
Delia and EugeneDelEugehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01583964346794427604noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211323416075256950.post-2121153401047328072016-08-10T11:04:32.403-07:002016-08-10T11:04:32.403-07:00grazie, Mirella e Charles, di avermi portato all&#...grazie, Mirella e Charles, di avermi portato all'opera al Bard College -- non avevo mai sentito neppure una nota di Iris prima d'ora! affettuosissimi saluti
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211323416075256950.post-69925394654596004472015-03-13T18:50:44.528-07:002015-03-13T18:50:44.528-07:00Thank you for this preview and background; I think...Thank you for this preview and background; I think I am prepared for the Saturday HD, which I plan to see with others from my retirement home. We too attended her 1970 performance in Newark and were blown away by the theatrical skills she combined with the sheer beauty of her voice -- and at her already advancing age. She was truly one of the greats.
This blogspot is terrific. Historical notes illustrated with videos of live performances from every filmed and recorded period of the opera -- and all for free!
